The Sidney Gutierrez School continues its dedicated efforts to a program of high academic expectations and student achievement in a small school setting; whereby each student and staff member is part of a learning community dedicated to the pursuit of intellectual growth and commitment to society.

The School’s entire pedagogical approach and curricula is designed to improve student academic achievement as well as increasing student character within our student body. The School’s multi-disciplined, project-oriented approach improves student’s self-confidence, increases intrinsic motivation, stimulates interest in academic subjects and focuses attention on reading and writing to ensure high academic achievement across all disciplines.  The School’s curriculum is continuously reviewed to ensure that it meets all the benchmarks prescribed by the school’s goals and New Mexico Public Education Department’s content standards and benchmarks.

Drawing upon current national educational research, the School is resolved to:

The goal of the School’s academic program is to promote students who are excellent writers, readers and problem solvers, who are conversant in a second language, knowledgeable about our society and other cultures, history and current events, and who are comfortable using technology as a tool for learning.

The Sidney Gutierrez School continues to demonstrate its successful contributions to the educational landscape in New Mexico by providing a viable option to parents whereby their children are exposed to rigorous academic opportunities in addition to being taught the value of community service, good citizenship and appropriate core values.  Throughout its existence, the Sidney Gutierrez School has established itself as one of the finest charter schools in the state and recognized nationally.

The School continues to work diligently with the Roswell Independent School District to promote responsible business practices.  The result of these efforts has been the establishment and sustained use of a business services contract between the school and the district which currently serves as a model for other locally-chartered charter schools in New Mexico.  Of particular note in benefitting the school is the use of the expertise of the district’s Business Department personnel, their policies and technology infrastructure.  The school continues to operate in a prudent fiscal manner which is a credit to this partnership.  This agreement has successfully expanded its scope to other departments over the course of previous charters with the school truly maximizing the benefits inherent in such a relationship.
