The objectives of the School’s academic program are to develop students who are:

  • excellent writers;
  • proficient readers;
  • competent problem solvers;
  • introduced to a second language;
  • knowledgeable about our society and other cultures, history and current events;
  • exposed to the fine arts; and
  • comfortable using technology as a tool for learning.

The core curriculum of Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics and additional content areas of Technology and Spanish will anchor the academic program.  These academic disciplines will be woven together in an integrated fashion that is coherent and connects the content in an interdisciplinary manner, whereby all materials are meaningful to the individual student.

The students of the School meet the challenges of the required student performance measures by setting appropriate and obtainable learning goals and objectives within the curricular offerings.  The School’s primary learning objectives are that students be able to:

  • read and understand complex materials;
  • acquire, assimilate, analyze, synthesize, evaluate and communicate a wide variety of information;
  • communicate clearly both orally and in writing;
  • to research, organize and present clearly a wide variety of information;
  • to utilize the computer to communicate, to gather information, and to create and present multimedia presentations;
  • work effectively and efficiently either alone or as part of a group.
    The School’s secondary learning objectives are that students be able to:
  • understand and apply appropriately complex mathematical formulas to analyze and understand real world data;
  • understand the scientific basis of physical and biological phenomena;
  •  demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for the history and culture of all strands of our society.

The School has also set broad academic objectives for student learning.  Students will be able to respond accurately to questions testing their understanding of the materials presented, including fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice and open-ended questions.

Student skills and strategies in the learning process will include but are not limited to:

  • Recognizing problems
  • Formulating hypotheses
  • Making good predictions
  • Asking relevant questions
  • Locate, analyze, interpret, evaluate and record information and ideas
  • Assume multiple stances
  • Develop complex understanding of content
  • Extend understanding through creative models
  • Apply understanding to new problems

Student outcomes have also been established by the Governing Council that stipulates the student is a “Learner” demonstrating the following traits:

  • Independent
  • Disciplined
  • Adventurous
  • Self-motivated
  • Metacognitive
  • Flexible

Referencing the state established Accountability Reports, School Report Cards and School Grade Reports for each of the years in the current charter; the School has received annual accountability results of the grade of “A”.  Analyzing these results suggests that the current objectives as developed by the school are in fact maintaining high academic standards, supporting school-developed educational initiatives and learning opportunities for the students enrolled in the School.  The School continues to support the aforementioned objectives in its current charter.
